Canalside Road / Canal Build Updates

Works on a major new piece of infrastructure in Wichelstowe commenced in late 2025. The works include:

  • Replacement of the current temporary construction haul route with a new section of highway
  • The construction of a new road bridge over the canal
  • Extension of the canal south from its current position adjacent to Jenkins House, under the road and into housing Parcel 13 before turning to the east and stopping just short of Mill Lane
  • Construction of a new pedestrian swing bridge over the canal

On this page we will post monthly update on progress over the previous months and provide a look ahead to the works which will be taking place over the next month.

PROGRESS UPDATE November / December 2025

  • Mobilised, secured the working area and general site clearance
  • Started to construct the haul route south alongside the alignment of the canal
  • Constructed the pile mat (the solid base for the piling rig) on the north and south of the road.
  • Planed off the existing road surface

LOOK AHEAD – December 25 / January 26

Canal

  • Complete construction of the haul road and construct the piling platform within the canal which creates a base for the piling rig to operate
  • Commence installation of the steel piles which will form the hard edges of the canal (required where there are structures like the bridges)

Road Bridge

  • Excavate the temporary haul road in the area where the canal culvert will be located
  • Commence installation of the steel sheet piles which support the bridge structure.

Whilst we have selected a piling technique which minimises the noise it is likely that there will be some noise disruption during the coming month. We apologise for the inconvenience and will aim to keep disruption to a minimum.
