Little VIPs get into the swing of Wichelstowe play area launch

Wichelstowe’s littlest VIPs have officially opened the development’s newest community play area, with pupils from Kingfisher CE Academy leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of this fun new space.

Situated alongside the Wichelstowe Boardwalk between Middle and West Wichel, the public play area is designed for primary-age children and will give families from across the local area a safe and accessible place to enjoy outdoor play.

The play area is packed with swings, multi-play units, benches, picnic tables and bucket swings for younger children. It also includes soft grass matting and has been enhanced with new trees, shrubs, and hedges.

Charlotte from Kingfisher CE Academy, said: “Helping to open the new play area was so much fun! I love the swings and the climbing frame, and I can’t wait to come back to play with all my friends.”

The new facility is part of Wichelstowe’s ongoing commitment to develop family-friendly spaces and enhance community life. By combining thoughtful design with a focus on safety and accessibility, the play area provides an environment where children can develop physical skills, social interaction, and imaginative play.

Dan Pavely, Wichelstowe’s Project Director, added: Seeing our littlest VIPs take part in the ribbon-cutting and enjoy the play area was a real joy. I’m sure it will become a favourite spot for families to come together, play and make happy memories.”
