Consultation on the proposed closure of Mill Lane launched

The formal consultation relating to the closure of the northern section of Mill Lane to  vehicular through traffic has today been published on the Council’s website.

The requirement to close Mill Lane to vehicular traffic was first endorsed in the outline planning consent for Wichelstowe in 2005, with the road considered unsuitable for the projected increase in vehicular trips generated by the new development. This requirement was reinforced in the updated outline planning consent granted in 2014 with a condition applied requiring the developer to submit details of the proposed timing of closure.

Following a period of consultation the condition was discharged requiring the closure to be implemented by 31st August 2019 coinciding with the commencement of housebuilding in the Middle Wichel area.

The reasons for making this order is as follows:
– To provide safe and convenient movement of pedestrians and cyclists, whilst maintaining access for emergency and maintenance vehicles.
– To prevent the use of the road by vehicular traffic of a kind which, or its use by vehicular traffic in a manner which, is unsuitable having regard to the existing character of the road

Objections or representations to the proposed Order should be made completing the consultation form which can be found at www.swindon.gov.uk/trafficregulationorders under ‘proposed traffic regulation orders’ under reference (H&T/TRO/Mill Lane) by no later than 31 May 2019. Any objection or representation received will form part of a public record which may be made publicly available.

A copy of the documents for the Order may be inspected online at www.swindon.gov.uk/trafficregulationorders
