Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council organised a special community litter pick yesterday (Thurs) that saw residents and local businesses come together to keep the parish tidy and raise funds for charity.
Around 35 members of the public and representatives from local businesses took part and collected 36 big black bags of rubbish, and raised around £600 for Wroughton-based charity Prospect Hospice.
The litter pickers met outside Waitrose at 9.30am and focused their efforts on Wichelstowe.
Waitrose kindly donated free bottles of water and yummy energy bars and staff at First Port, Southby & Co Financial Planning and the Wichelstowe Joint Venture Team all took part to give something back to the local community.
Cllr John Hewer, Chair of Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council, said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to everybody who took part in our community litter pick, and to the local businesses who so generously donated.
“It was great to see so many people come together to help keep the local area clean, tidy and welcoming, and to raise funds for the Prospect Hospice.”
Southby & Co, First Port and Wichelstowe LLP even went a step further and each generously donated £5 for every bag filled.
Dave Southby, of Southby & Co, said: “It’s always a great pleasure to support and give back to our local community and vital local charities who do such important work in the parish.”
Emma Leake, from Wichelstowe LLP, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people give up a couple of hours of their time on an incredibly hot day to help keep Wichelstowe clean and tidy. We’re already looking forward to the next one.”
Max Leslie, Head Groundsman at First Port, said: “It was fantastic to see everyone come together and support such a positive community event. We’d like to thank Wroughton and Wichelstowe Parish Council for organising such a successful initiative, and we’re proud to have played our part in raising important funds for Prospect Hospice.”
