David Wilson Homes’ Orchards Rise development at The Orchards, Wichelstowe, has seen strong sales demand with ten reservations over the last month.
More than 60 per cent of these recent sales were to first time buyers while three properties have been bought by purchasers from Surrey and Reading in line with reports that suggest working from home has driven up house sales in parts of the West Country. Sources state buyers are moving out of major cities to get better value for money with places like Swindon proving popular [1] with 30% of all searches outside London searching for Swindon [2].
Louise Ware, sales director at Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “There has been a terrific amount of interest in our Wichelstowe development which has resulted in a boom in sales.
“There’s also been a spike in people visiting the development who don’t come from the local area and who realise the value they can get in Swindon – if they’re on a city salary but relocate they can get better value for money, more space, access to the countryside and still enjoy good commuter links if they need to travel for work.
“Wichelstowe has fast carved out a reputation as one of the most desirable postcodes in Swindon as people seek out energy efficient homes in thriving new communities that are well connected yet in reach of open space and all the benefits that brings.”
Three bedroom homes at Orchards Rise are currently priced from £345,000, below the average price of a property coming to market in Britain which, according to Rightmove, was £366,000 in March. Four bedroom homes are currently priced from £410,000.
The Key Worker incentive is currently available at Orchards Rise where buyers are entitled to a deposit contribution of £1,000 for every £20,000 they spend. Flooring is also included on selected plots. Key Workers from the NHS, teachers, police and fire services, the MOD, prison and probation services, plus Local Authority employees and Highways England are eligible for help.
The Wichelstowe development is being built by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in partnership with Swindon Borough Council which will deliver 3,000 new homes over the next 20 years, along with new schools and community facilities. The 250-hectare site on the southern edge of Swindon will include extensive open spaces, nature conservation areas, playing pitches and allotments.
Orchards Rise is a development of two, three, four and five bedroom homes. As part of this neighbourhood residents can enjoy 12km of new nature trails, play areas, 200 acres of open space and walks along the Wilts and Berks canal. Homes are within a?15-minute walk of M&S and Waitrose, PureGym and The Hall and Woodhouse restaurant. There’s also a range of schools for children of all ages within easy reach.
Junction 16 of the M4 and Swindon train station are both within a ten-minute drive, providing easy access to?Bristol and London.
