Wichelstowe was awash with patriotic bunting last weekend as residents in one of the streets at the Canalside development at Wichelstowe marked Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year on the throne with a celebratory street party.
One of the event organisers and resident at David Wilson Homes’ Canalside development, Jennifer Christer, said: “This was the ‘Chaddington Strand residents’ first event so to get the party underway, staff from David Wilson Homes contributed £250 to help us mark this momentous occasion in style!
“Dozens of event goers enjoyed a feast of food and charity raffles – the street party was a terrific way to get community together to reflect on some of the memorable moments over the past 70 years. It was lovely to see so many people enjoy this historical national event.”
A record 12million people are understood to have celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at street parties. The nation’s admiration for Her Majesty brought together people like never before, with more than 200,000 special lunches held on Sunday.
One of the largest local authority joint venture agreements in the country, the Wichelstowe development is being built by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in partnership with Swindon Borough Council which will deliver 3,000 new homes over the next 20 years, along with new schools and community facilities. The 250-hectare site on the southern edge of Swindon will include extensive open spaces, nature conservation areas, playing pitches and allotments. Canalside is fully occupied however, homes are now available at Barratt Homes’ Wichel Fields development and properties will be released for sale at Orchards Rise, David Wilson Homes’ site, later this summer.
