Wichel Fields Show Home Opens

Barratt Homes and Swindon Borough Council are celebrating another milestone with the launch of the new timber framed show homes at Wichel Fields @ Wichelstowe, part of the Wichelstowe development off Mill Lane, Swindon.

The flagship Wichelstowe development is being built by Wichelstowe LLP, one of the UK’s largest joint venture partnerships between the UK’s largest housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes and Swindon Borough Council.

Around 3,000 new homes are planned for delivery at the 250-hectare site over the next 20 years along with new schools and community facilities, making a significant contribution to address the demand for new, quality housing in Swindon. Once complete, there will be 200 acres of open space, 12km of new footways and cycleways, 1.5 acres of allotments and 20 acres of play areas and sports pitches.

Since moving on to the site in 2019 there has been significant investment in the local economy.  The project has so far supported around 25 local businesses with employment to the value of some £60m, created 564 jobs[1], two apprentices, and has invested significantly within the local community in new schools, restaurants and facilities.

It has already welcomed over 100 residents at the original Canalside phase and is experiencing considerable interest in this next phase – Wichel Fields @ Wichelstowe.  Wichel Fields @ Wichelstowe comprises of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes. Prices start from £364,995 for a three bedroom home and £454,995 for a 4 bedroom home. Access is via a new roundabout that has been built on Mill Lane.

All the homes are EPC grade A and B and come with electric vehicle charging points.

The showhomes showcase the responsibly sourced timber frame technology that allows highly specialised frames to be constructed off site in a controlled environment and move a key part of the build process away from the building site, enabling faster, more efficient construction.  They also result in highly energy efficient home.  This is in line with Barratt Developments’ industry-leading commitment to becoming a net zero carbon housebuilder.

The development continues the commitment to biodiversity demonstrated throughout the project with over 100 swift bricks installed to date across Wichelstowe, with another 200 swift bricks planned for Wichel Fields. There are also plenty of hedgehog highways and bat boxes, protecting and attracting local wildlife.

Wichelstowe project director Daniel Pavely said: “We’re very pleased to mark another milestone in the project with show homes that enables so prospective buyers to really experience the quality of the properties on offer.

“The interest in this development has been fantastic.  More than 80 of those who have already moved in are first time buyers who we are delighted to be supporting getting on to the property ladder.”

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director at Barratt Homes’ Bristol division, which covers Swindon, added: “We are thrilled with the level of interest in this second phase of much-needed new homes here at Wichelstowe.  The broad range of new homes, outdoor space and nature conservation have really captured customers’ imagination and they are as excited as we are to see this next phase taking shape.”
