Wichelstowe sponsor Half Marathon for third year running

Swindon Half Marathon has confirmed that Wichelstowe, the landmark development south of Swindon, will be sponsoring an aid station for the race for the third year running.

Wichelstowe is giving its name to the station which will be positioned at the 10th mile point of the 13 mile course – near Waitrose and close to the development where work is already underway on the next phase.

More than 2,000 runners are expected for the race on Sunday, September 22 and organiser Graeme Hardie said: “The runners really look forward to the aid stations as it gives them a well-earned break as they refuel with water and jelly babies and perhaps take a toilet break. We’re delighted to have Wichelstowe on board to help us deliver this most welcome respite.”

The next phase of Wichelstowe, which is named Canalside @ Wichelstowe, will feature a mix of 208 apartments and houses from five-star builders Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes. In the initial stages more than 1,000 jobs will be supported by the scheme and residents will be able to move in next year.

Daniel Pavely, Project Director for Wichelstowe said: “The community is at the heart of Wichelstowe so getting involved with the Swindon Half Marathon is a perfect fit for us. The race not only passes by Canalside @ Wichelstowe but it attracts thousands of runners – together with their friends and families – so they can see first-hand how work is progressing here. We’re really looking forward to the day!”

Buyers can register their interest in Canalside @ Wichelstowe now and will have the opportunity to reserve a home off plan before the official opening. The on-site marketing suite will open in the next couple of months.
